Pediatric Lead Screening
Project
The Pediatric Lead Poisoning
Project was
established in 2006
in cooperation with the

Department of Community
Pediatrics and
Dr. Victor German
and Dr. Tony Scott at
the
UTHSCSA. The project is two-
fold: increase the capacity and
knowledge of border health
professionals about the issue of
pediatric
lead
poisoning through
a series of professional
education programming and
development of a
training
program
for Promotores of the
Texas
border region.
The
professional education
outreach
is done
through video
conferencing
and live
programming.
Each “Promotore”
trained receives a “Lead
Prevention
Tool Kit” that
includes a comprehensive set of
brochures,
posters and
presentation aids to assist in
community
based training
efforts. Information contained
in the tool
kit was developed
from the information gathered by
the
Department of Community
Pediatrics in their HUD
funded
Project LIFE. All South Texas
AHEC Centers
have participated
in the project.
