Attendees of the Mision Luterana Meeting

A Promotores outreach initiative that was established in 2005 to assess and address the health disparity issues on the west side of San Antonio. The project began with two community assessment activities and strategic planning effort to validate the needs of the community. Based on community feedback, current plans for the initiative include developing a “Centro Bienestar” or wellness program, dental health outreach programming, after school health careers club and nutrition classes. Partners in this project include South Central AHEC, Edgewood Family Network and Mision Luterana staff.

Respira
Respira is an asthma education and management program sponsored by the Mid Rio Grande Border AHEC. Respira program

It provides educational information for children with asthma and for their parents. The project was developed in 1997 and first introduced to elementary school students at Ryan Elementary School,
in Laredo, Texas.

ANTE is an anti-smoking campaign that is being focused on elementary school children in the South Coastal region.

The ANTE Tobacco Campaign's coloring books and DVDs featuring animated ant characters working to send the anti-smoking message to these 1st - 3rd graders.

Developers are hoping to incorporate the ANTE program with the Tar Wars program already in place for 5th graders.
